Last week we took a look at primers. Today it is all about foundations. They come in all kinds of varieties including powder, creams and liquids. They also come in many different shades to match your skin skintone. To find the best shade you can match the color to the back of your hand or your arm to compare. It is also important to know what type of skin you have. If you have oily skin you will want a foundation with more of a matte look. If you have dry skin you want a foundation that moisturizes and gives you a bit of shine. So know your skin type. Today I am focusing on liquid foundations. Here are some steps to get that perfect look!
Step 1: Make sure that you moisturize your face and allow at least 5 minutes before you begin.
Step 2: Apply your primer. If you are using the Smashbox Photo Finish primer I recommended last week you will only need a dime sized amount. This will help minimize your pores. Apply it to your entire face.
Step 3: Here you would apply your concealer, though some prefer to do it after applying foundation. I will be doing a piece on concealers in the future. If you are new to makeup and don’t know about concealers you can skip this step for now.
Step 4: Applying the foundation. Some people like to use a sponge to apply foundation. I prefer a brush as I feel like I am able to get better coverage with less make up. If you go with a brush just make sure you use a good quality one so you do not end up with bristles in your makeup. I will pour or pump the makeup on to a sponge and put a dab in key areas. A spot on my forhead, nose, under the eyes, lip and chin. I will then use the brush to blend it all over including the eye area, starting in the middle and working my way out. Remember not to use too much as you can always dab a little more if needed, but it is much harder to take away.
